Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found plenty of engaging independent titles. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a character that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, battle mini-bosses and unlock a store to buy outfits for your poop character.

Time your jumps precisely, as a wrong move means restarting the level. Leap off floating orbs to launch your character to new heights, navigate fragile ledges, and interact with buttons to reveal hidden paths. Gather coins for buying challenging levels as gameplay intensifies.

Visually, the demo features eye-catching level designs and an amazing background music. Its minimalist graphics with morphing basic polygons evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of other games where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment frequently included toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. Naturally, this theme is present extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on computers this November.
